Jim Ross just gave fans an update after suffering a frightening fall that kept him down for hours—and he’s lucky to be upright.

The 74-year-old Hall of Famer was forced to skip this week’s AEW Dynamite after taking a nasty fall at home. While fans already knew he was hurt, JR finally opened up on the January 23 episode of Grilling JR—and it’s even more serious than people thought. Ross explained he tripped while going to his chair and hit the hardwood floor hard. The worst part? He was stuck there for five hours with no one around to help.

“I’m pretty good. I’m not as sore as I have been after some of my falls, but the hardwood floor of my living room is still unkind,” he shared. “Before we started recording, I laid on the floor for five hours. My ace assistant, Steven Link, had a family emergency, so I couldn’t get a hold of him—his phone died. That won’t happen again.”

The voice of AEW admitted the situation could’ve been much worse, but he’s grateful he eventually managed to get back on his feet. Despite everything, JR is keeping his trademark grit and humor intact.

“I got lucky, I guess, at the end of the day. I just tripped going to my chair. Sounds crazy, and I took a hell of a bump, and so here we are. I got back on my feet that afternoon, but I laid on the floor from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. No fun whatsoever. But anyway, all’s well that ends well. I’m glad I’m moving around, and I appreciate the concern and everyone’s support. It all helps. Anyhow, we made it. I’m breathing and upright, I’m in my chair—so how bad can it be?”

Ross had just made a triumphant return to AEW commentary earlier this month in Oklahoma, and fans were thrilled to hear his iconic voice again. While there’s no timeline yet for when he’ll be back at the desk, JR’s recovery seems to be moving in the right direction.
