Jim Ross shocked the world when he announced that he was diagnosed with colon cancer and right after that, the pro wrestling world showed Ross a ton of support and now Ross has explained how Steve Austin supported him in a big way.
While speaking on Grilling JR, Jim Ross revealed what Steve Austin did for him after he was diagnosed with colon cancer. While Ross was at home, he got a call from Austin, and they ended up talking for 43 minutes.
Ross said that’s what true friends do, they reach out, talk things through with you, and remind you they love you. That call from Austin lifted his spirits and made him feel stronger.
Austin told him he would beat the cancer and that everything would be fine if he just toughed it out. Ross replied that he was ready to give it his all, follow the doctors’ and nurses’ instructions, and trust they would do a good job.
“I was sitting there in the hospital—no, but I was at home. I was at home, and I got a call from Steve Austin. And when we got off the phone, I looked at my phone and we’d talked for 43 minutes. Forty-three minutes. And here’s what your friends do: they call you, they talk to you, and at the end of the conversation, they tell you they love you. And that’s what Steve did.
So, that’s what I got. And that cheered me up and made me feel strong and vibrant. And he said, ‘You’re going to beat this and everything’s going to be just fine. Just ride it out. Tough it out.’
I said, ‘Oh, I’m going to—I’m going to, you know, I’m going to put my uniform on and go play and give the doctor and the nurses everything they want and hopefully they’re going to do a good job.'”
This comes after Good Ol’ JR already confirmed that he will make it in time for the All In: Texas pay-per-view on July 12th after he undergoes surgery. Steve Austin’s phone call wasn’t just a random conversation since it was a reminder that true friendships last. That’s exactly why Jim Ross is truly grateful to have someone like the Texas Rattlesnake in his life and that’s never going to change.
