Jim Ross is putting it out there—he believes Vince McMahon is already part of the WrestleMania 42 picture, at least behind the scenes.
Speaking on the latest episode of Grilling JR, Jim Ross was asked whether he sees Vince McMahon returning to WWE creative—and he didn’t hesitate with his answer.
“Yeah, absolutely no doubt about it. I don’t even have a question in my mind where there’s, you know, it’s the old cliche, or there’s smoke, oftentimes there’s fire, and there’s been a lot of smoke regarding VKM in WWE, and what his future may or may not be, and how he can still contribute.”
Ross pointed to McMahon’s track record and mindset, making it clear he believes the former WWE boss still has something to offer creatively. From Ross’ perspective, that all leads to one conclusion heading into WWE’s biggest show of the year.
“This can still contribute. He’s a big picture guy, and that takes a lot of detail work and planning, but he can do that. He can make all that happen. And you know he’s hungry, so we know he’s in the kitchen. So I don’t think there’s any doubt in my mind that Vince will be instrumental in this year’s Wrestlemania as far as creative is concerned.”
When pressed further on whether McMahon is already influencing WrestleMania 42, Ross doubled down and suggested it’s only a matter of time before it becomes visible. He also hinted that even if McMahon isn’t fully hands-on, his fingerprints could still show up in key areas like major matches or title programs.
“Oh, yeah. He’s not going to wait on anything. He’s not going to, as John Wayne would say, we’re burning daylight. Something’s going to happen. I believe that McMahon will have the will to contribute to this year’s WrestleMania… I just think that he’s going to be involved in WrestleMania in some shape, form or fashion.”
Ross made sure to clarify that this wouldn’t take away from the current WWE leadership under Triple H, but rather complement it given McMahon’s experience. He then shifted focus to the business side, suggesting that executives like Ari Emanuel and Nick Khan would be open to using McMahon if the opportunity made sense.
“That’s not a disrespect to Triple H’s team and all that at all. It’s the fact that you got the most successful pro wrestling guy in history who’s available. Absolutely, absolutely. They would not be good businessmen if they weren’t willing to entertain that idea.”
Ross stated that Vince McMahon’s experience and vision still hold major value, especially when it comes to an event as big as WrestleMania: “Because they realize that McMahon is a guy that built the whole damn thing. He has a vision that nobody else has.”
With speculation continuing to swirl, Ross’ comments only add more fuel to the idea that McMahon could still have influence—even if it’s not officially acknowledged. If Vince McMahon does end up having a hand in WrestleMania 42, it would mark a major behind-the-scenes development at a time when WWE is firmly under new leadership—but still tied to the legacy he built.
