There are a lot of controversial figures in the pro wrestling business. That list certainly includes Jim Cornette, and Seth Rollins is not shy about sharing his opinion on him. Now we’re getting Cornette’s side of the story.
Jim Cornette and Seth Rollins crossed paths again this week, this time through comments made during Rollins’ appearance on the Mohr Stories podcast with Jay Mohr. The discussion turned into a talking point on the first 2026 episode of The Jim Cornette Experience, where Cornette reacted to Rollins’ remarks and offered his own take on what was said.
During the podcast, Jay Mohr asked Rollins to choose between two figures often criticized by modern wrestlers; Jim Cornette and Vince Russo were those two men. Mohr framed the question by referring to Cornette as the “tennis racket guy” and Russo as the “Vince writer guy.” Rollins did not hold back in his initial response.
“I hate them both. I think they’re both jackasses,” Rollins stated in the clip played on the show.
Seth Rollins then explained that if he had to choose between the two, Cornette would get the nod. He followed up by talking through why Cornette, despite the criticism, still stands apart from Russo in his view.
“If I had to pick one, it’d be Cornette. I mean, I kind of want to hang out with Cornette a little more. Cornette was mine. No, he was fine. He’s super entertaining. I mean, the guy, I mean, he can still cut a promo.”
Seth Rollins went on to suggest that Jim Cornette’s reputation today comes from how media works now, especially in podcasting. He told Jay Mohr that Cornette has leaned into strong opinions as a way to stay relevant and earn a living.
“He just, he’s a victim of the hot take culture where, like, he has to say the craziest thing that come to his brain. And he that’s how he makes his money on his podcast.”
In the past, Rollins has said that Cornette hurt his feelings. Then again, Corny has already admitted that he doesn’t know what he did to hurt Rollins’ feelings.
Jim Cornette responded on his Cornette Experience show by saying Seth Rollins’ comments were more positive than they sounded on the surface. He claimed Rollins was careful with his wording to avoid problems at home, pointing to Cornette’s past criticism of Becky Lynch, Rollins’ wife.
“He said what he had to say to placate Becky, who’s still wounded, I’m sure, about what I had said about their spawn. He’s obviously trying to keep everything nice and placid at home, but should Becky really be that mad at me for what I said? I didn’t say anything personal about him otherwise.”
Jim Cornette said he viewed the exchange as a win, especially since Rollins offered praise to him that was not extended to Russo. He focused on Rollins acknowledging his ability to entertain.
“See a clear endorsement, a clear endorsement for me right there. I do agree with him. Russo is not entertaining, and I am. So, see, we found common ground again.”
Jim Cornette then acted out what he claimed was Rollins’ internal thought process during the interview, framing it as a balancing act between honesty and personal life.
“I hate him, but if I think about it, I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for him. I gotta say nice things if I really think about it… How can I say this without making my wife mad, but at the same time stick somewhat to the truth?”
The exchange closed with Cornette continuing to lean into the idea that Rollins’ words showed respect, even if wrapped in criticism. He suggested that without outside factors, Rollins would have been more open with praise.
“You imagine if she wasn’t around and she wasn’t mad at me, he’d be effusive with praise for me,” Cornette joked. “I love Seth. What a talent he is. He’s, he’s tremendous. And yes, he’s, he’s correct. I was and continue to be very entertaining.”
On the other hand, Vince Russo went scorched Earth on Seth Rollins. Obviously, everyone has their own way of dealing with The Visionary.
We will keep our eyes peeled for any update to this story. Obviously, anything can happen next to escalate the situation.
