Jerry “The King” Lawler might not be lacing up his boots just yet, but he isn’t ruling it out either.
The WWE Hall of Famer recently sat down with News 5 inside his East Memphis home—decorated floor to ceiling with Coca-Cola Santas and vintage memorabilia—for a heartfelt interview about his health, faith, and future in the ring. The 76-year-old wrestling legend is still recovering from a serious stroke he suffered in September while alone in Florida.
“I was in Florida by myself and woke one morning and everything was messed up,” Lawler recalled. “I called Lauren [McBride] to come down from Memphis and get me in the hospital.”
McBride, his former longtime partner who still holds medical power of attorney, directed paramedics remotely and helped save his life. Lawler admitted his daily strength now hovers around a 6 or 7 out of 10—but he’s still getting around, traveling for autograph signings and making appearances nearly every weekend.
Though colorblindness from the stroke has kept him away from his beloved painting hobby, Lawler’s mindset remains defiant. When asked about returning to the ring, he didn’t hesitate to offer a glimmer of hope.
“The King’s not quite back in the ring… but I’ve not put it out of my mind. One more match… in there… somewhere.”
Lawler hasn’t wrestled since 2022, and his latest health scare would be enough to sideline anyone. But for a man who once piledrove Andy Kaufman into wrestling history and narrated the Battle of the Billionaires at WrestleMania, resilience has always been part of the crown.
As Christmas decorations lit up his home, Lawler also shared that he’s recently reconnected with his faith and the “reason for the season,” saying:
“All my life, I feel like I’ve been taken care of. I’m taking care of by Jesus… so I don’t worry about dying or anything like that.”
Whether he returns to the ring or not, Jerry Lawler continues to show what it means to battle through adversity like a king.
