Travis Scott shocked the world at WrestleMania 41 when he helped John Cena beat Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship—but his WWE run ended as fast as it began. Now we know why Jelly Roll is getting the SummerSlam spotlight instead: Travis blew it.
During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed that WWE had serious plans for Travis Scott at SummerSlam, but the rapper’s noncommittal attitude tanked the entire angle. According to Meltzer, Scott was being considered for a heel role, possibly even a major celebrity tag team match—until WWE got fed up and pivoted to Jelly Roll.
“Yeah, he was training, but I think he wasn’t training that hard. But I know he was training and I know it fell apart. Could it be put back together? Sure. But I think this was the show he was going to be on.”
Meltzer confirmed the original pitch for SummerSlam centered around Scott—but after he backed off, WWE tapped Jelly Roll instead, who has since appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live with Randy Orton and Drew McIntyre to hype the event.
“And obviously, they went with Jelly Roll. And although Travis probably would’ve been on the heel side rather than the babyface side… maybe he would’ve been in the Logan Paul spot—I don’t know.”
The problem wasn’t a lack of opportunity—it was Scott’s inability to lock in. A backstage source told Meltzer:
“He likes to have a bunch of projects going on at once and he’s noncommittal, I think.”
And WWE insiders had already been hinting for months that Scott was difficult to deal with. One even told WrestleVotes:
“I heard he was ‘not a quick learner for the business.’”
Another source flat out said:
“He doesn’t like to commit to anything. He goes half-in, and tries other projects at the same time. And since he’s a personal client of Ari, everyone tried to accommodate until it just became too much to deal with.”
So instead of capitalizing on a major post-WrestleMania push, Travis Scott’s role vanished—and Jelly Roll is now reaping the rewards in what could’ve been Scott’s SummerSlam spotlight.
