AEW has seen many people travel through their roster by way of WWE. Jeff Jarrett’s name was one of many on that list, and he once had a backstage role in the company. That’s not really the case anymore.
Jeff Jarrett did help out backstage in AEW. However, he has only been around backstage as a talent in recent memory. That saw a shift in his responsibilities with the company. This comes after his retirement run was seemingly downplayed to a great extent, even though he has signed his final pro wrestling contract.
During a recent Q&A sessionon Fightful Select, Sean Ross Sapp was asked about Jeff Jarrett’s current role in AEW. The response was good, if you like knowing that Jarrett is still around backstage, but it may not be great for those who want to see him wrestle again.
"I know he is only a talent now. I think Karen Jarrett was on a per‑appearance deal if I’m not mistaken. Jeff Jarrett was moved out of his office role well over a year ago and does on‑screen stuff now. But it’s another case of a guy that’s still with the company even though his role changed when the company wanted to get younger.”
Jeff Jarrett has spoken on his lackluster AEW run. He even blamed MJF for derailing whatever he had going.
Although AEW did make a deal about of Jeff Jarrett teasing a retirement run, their own John Cena’s farewell tour, nothing happened in regards to giving Double J any kind of prime spot.
We will have to see what is next. Jeff Jarrett made it clear that he has signed his final pro wrestling contract. Only time will tell if he gets the goodbye a legend like him deserves.
