JC Mateo isn’t just filling space on SmackDown—he signed a legit multi-year contract with WWE, and now we know the numbers behind it.
After leaving New Japan Pro Wrestling, where he was still picking up title wins even after reports surfaced about his WWE move, Mateo arrived on SmackDown and aligned himself with Solo Sikoa’s MFT faction. WWE gave him the name JC Mateo after signing him, rebranding former NJPW powerhouse Jeff Cobb for their own plans. WWE sources told Fightful Select exactly what kind of deal Mateo agreed to:
“Cobb signed a three-year deal upon coming to WWE, which will take his contract into the Spring of 2028.”
Mateo hasn’t been loud, but his in-ring presence has said enough. WWE didn’t bring him in for a short run—they gave him time to make an impact, and he’s already knee-deep in one of the top factions on SmackDown.
Do you think JC Mateo’s WWE run will live up to his past work as Jeff Cobb? Or did WWE miss the mark with the rebrand? Drop a comment and let us know what you think.
