It turns out the rumors about Sharmell and Melina’s backstage drama weren’t just locker room gossip—WWE Hall of Famer JBL has officially confirmed the two had real heat behind the scenes during the Ruthless Aggression era.
During a recent Q&A on the Something to Wrestle podcast, JBL was asked point-blank if he had ever broken up a fight between the two former WWE stars. While he couldn’t specifically recall a physical altercation, he didn’t shy away from confirming the tension.
“They had heat. They had real heat,” JBL admitted. “But I don’t remember that. I don’t remember if they were ever separated. At one point, there was real heat, real heat between those two and several other things.”
Both women were heavily featured on WWE programming in the mid-2000s. Sharmell served as Queen Sharmell alongside her husband, King Booker, while Melina made waves as part of MNM and went on to become a multi-time Women’s and Divas Champion.
While rumors have floated for years that the two had to be physically separated backstage, JBL clarified the story.
“Yes, I don’t think I broke it up,” he explained. “Now I may have separated them. I do remember times where there was some confrontations, and I was there, so I could have been the one that stepped in between. That part certainly could be true. Maybe it’s not a fight, maybe it’s more of a confrontation.”
Sharmell was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2022 and still makes occasional appearances with Booker T. Melina has also popped up for WWE in recent years, including a memorable return in the 2022 Women’s Royal Rumble.
WWE’s locker room has always been known for real-life tension spilling over—and this is just another example of the drama that never made it to TV.
