Another name is officially out at WWE, and this time it’s Javier Bernal.

PWInsider broke the news that Bernal was released from his WWE NXT contract on May 2, the same day multiple NXT names were let go. WWE has yet to issue an official statement.

Bernal first signed with WWE in 2021 and quickly carved out a niche for himself on NXT Level Up before appearing regularly on NXT. He became known for his loudmouth persona and over-the-top “Big Body Javi” gimmick, leaning into comedy segments and backstage promos that often stood out—even if they didn’t always lead to big wins.

Despite never breaking into the main event scene or capturing gold in NXT, Bernal remained a consistent part of the show’s weekly programming. His character work drew a loyal following, especially during his self-promotional rants and mock press conferences. Still, it seems his run has come to an end as part of a wave of cuts affecting the NXT brand.

Javier Bernal’s release might not shake the foundation of NXT, but it’s another reminder that no one’s spot is ever truly safe—especially during quiet corporate cleanups. Whether fans loved or hated “Big Body Javi,” he left an impression every time he grabbed a mic. Now the only question is: where does he show up next, and will WWE regret letting him go?

Did WWE miss the mark by cutting Javier Bernal, or was it just time to move on? Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comment section below.
