Vince McMahon faced an earth-shattering lawsuit when Janel Grant claimed that he sexually abused her and subjected her to trafficking. There was a stay in that lawsuit, but now that time is over. Grant’s legal representative has something to say about this notable event.
On December 11, the six-month stay in Janel Grant’s civil lawsuit against Vince McMahon, WWE, and John Laurinaitis expired. The lawsuit was stayed while the Department of Justice investigated McMahon. That investigation will continue as Ms. Grant resumes her case.
Janel Grant’s representatives issued the following statement through Brandon Thurston. Now Janel Grant is free to follow through with the legal proceedings for her case against Vince McMahon.
“Today, the United States Southern District for New York informed us that they will be letting the stay expire on Janel Grant’s lawsuit against former WWE CEO Vince McMahon, WWE executive John Laurinaitis, and WWE for sexual assault and human trafficking. This decision allows Ms. Grant to proceed with her civil charges against McMahon, Laurinaitis, and WWE while federal prosecutors continue their criminal investigation.”
Ms. Grant’s attorney, Ann Callis, added that they are happy about the stay ending. They hope that this case will be a landmark one for those who have suffered through similar events that Janel Grant went through.
“We are pleased that prosecutors for the Southern District of New York have concluded that they can continue their criminal investigation while we bring forward new evidence in our civil case about the sexual exploitation carried out by Janel Grant’s abusers. For the last six months, Ms. Grant has patiently waited to hold Vince McMahon, John Laurinaitis, and WWE accountable for the sex trafficking and abuse she endured at the company on a near daily basis. Her wait is over, and we now look forward to sharing Ms. Grant’s story.”
U.S. Attorney Damian Williams, who oversees the Southern District of New York where the lawsuit was filed, is set to resign on December 13. We will have to see how this situation pans out in the future.
Vince McMahon retired from WWE, and he sold a ton of his TKO stock. He is no longer a primary stockholder, and he is now enjoying his time after WWE to the best of his ability. Only time will tell how Janel Grant’s lawsuit against him goes.
