Janel Grant is pushing back hard on how WWE publicly framed her situation, claiming the company attempted to control the narrative from the very beginning.

During her statement, Grant walked through the aftermath of the initial Wall Street Journal report in 2022, explaining that the company reached out to her directly with a specific request. According to Grant, WWE wanted to present a unified front — one that she says didn’t reflect her experience.

“So, in June 2022, actions and reactions told us a lot about who people are, what an environment is like, and whether we are safe. The company reached out and requested that I make a joint statement that this was a consensual relationship and that they wanted to know this to the extent that I needed or wanted something, aka more money on the table. I refused.”

Grant made it clear she did not agree with that characterization and declined to participate in any statement that framed the situation that way. However, she claims the messaging still went public — without her involvement. She pointed to a follow-up Wall Street Journal report, where she says WWE’s side was presented as fact, even though she never signed off on it.

“And then in the second Wall Street Journal story in July, the company spokesperson said it for me that it was consensual. So someone, a group maybe behind my back, without my knowledge, without my input, um, made that decision for me. It’s consensual. We say so and surprised that decision on me via the company spokesperson in the Wall Street Journal.”

Grant didn’t stop there, making a broader point about how decisions like that are made — and what they mean when one side isn’t included.

“So leaving out one half of an experiencing party um on a decision like that is not consent.”

Her comments frame the situation as more than just a disagreement over wording. Grant is arguing that the company’s public stance was formed without her voice, raising serious questions about how the narrative was shaped and who had control over it.

As the legal battle continues, statements like this add more tension to an already complex situation involving WWE, Vince McMahon, and TKO leadership. Grant’s version of events suggests that from early on, there was a disconnect between what she says happened and what was presented publicly.

This latest claim puts even more focus on how companies communicate during high-profile controversies — and what happens when one side says their voice was never included.
