AEW newcomer Jake Doyle’s breakout run hit a major setback — but there’s finally some positive news on his recovery.
Doyle suffered a torn biceps during the January 28, 2026 episode of AEW Dynamite while competing in an AEW World Tag Team Championship match. Now, according to Fightful Select, he has successfully undergone surgery to repair the injury.
“Jake Something had successful surgery to repair his injury this week.”
The injury happened during a heated tag team title bout that saw Doyle and Mark Davis challenge FTR. In the middle of the match, Doyle took an apron DDT from Cash Wheeler while holding onto the top rope — and that’s when the damage reportedly occurred.
Bryan Alvarez detailed how quickly the situation unfolded on Wrestling Observer Radio.
“They got him out of there. We never saw him again. They quickly did a couple more minutes and the crowd was like dead, so they knew something was wrong.”
Sean Ross Sapp added that Doyle confirmed the severity himself.
“Jake Doyle said he tore his biceps, and you could tell he wasn’t involved at all in the end of the match.”
Dave Meltzer then explained just how serious a torn biceps can be for an in-ring performer.
“Torn biceps is usually… I mean, if you don't have surgery, you could probably come back in four months. If you do, you're probably talking seven, so it’s a long time.”
He also compared it to a similar injury suffered by Drew McIntyre years ago.
“That was the exact, exact thing that happened to Drew McIntyre several years ago. While holding on and the thing just snapped.”
Doyle had only just begun his AEW run and was quickly inserted into the Don Callis Family storyline and the tag team title scene. The injury immediately halted that push, but a successful surgery is at least a step in the right direction.
Recovery from a biceps tear can take several months, meaning fans may not see Doyle back in an AEW ring until later this year. For a talent who had just started building momentum, timing couldn’t have been worse — but the road to a comeback officially begins now.
