Jacob Fatu’s road to WWE nearly ended before it even began.

During an interview with Denise Salcedo, the rising WWE star pulled back the curtain on what fans thought was just promo talk. When Fatu previously said he “almost got fired before he got hired,” many assumed it was storyline heat. According to Fatu, it was anything but. He made it clear that the situation was real — and that he was dangerously close to losing his shot before officially signing with WWE.

“I almost got fired before I got hired. They thought that was a line. No, that was no lying. Like, man, this is real uncut Jacob Fatu.”

Fatu didn’t frame it as a sympathy story. Instead, he turned the moment into a message about discipline and survival in a business where nothing is guaranteed. He admitted there were days he didn’t even want to get out of bed, knowing how easy it would’ve been to quit.

“And this ain’t me to try to say like, ‘Oh, I had the hardest life this and that coming up.’ No, this ain’t got nothing to do with that. And this got something to do with like, man, you can make it out the way. Anything you going through, bro. Wake up. Go get it. Go push. Keep pushing, bro. Don’t give up.”

He emphasized how close he was to falling off track, but ultimately chose to keep grinding instead of folding under pressure.

“Trust me. It was days I didn’t want to get up, man. It was so easy for me just to go, uh, you know what I mean? But, man, nah, just keep pushing. Keep going to it, man. God is good. God is great.”

Now, instead of wondering whether WWE would ever call, Fatu is fully locked in — even pointing out how surreal it feels seeing WWE branding and video game covers around him.

“Now, look, you got Xbox and 2K 26, WWE in the background. You know what I mean? Yeah. Locked in.”

The story flips the narrative many fans had about his signing. This wasn’t a smooth transition into WWE. It was nearly a missed opportunity that required him to tighten up and push forward at the right moment.

Jacob Fatu is now part of WWE’s landscape, but according to him, one wrong move could have changed everything. Knowing how close he came to losing it, do you look at his current run differently? Drop your thoughts below and let us know how big this moment is for him.
