Jeff Cobb made a massive splash at WWE Backlash when he appeared under the name JC Matteo and helped Jacob Fatu retain the United States Championship. But while fans were hyped to see Cobb officially align with The Bloodline, Jacob Fatu’s reaction in the ring painted a much more complicated picture.
During a recent interview with Battleground Podcast, Fatu was asked directly about the interference—and his lack of celebration afterward. His response made it clear that while Cobb belongs in WWE, there’s more going on behind the curtain than most realize.
Fatu started by trying to keep the focus on the legacy of The Bloodline and their deep roots.
“You know what, the Bloodline has always been the Bloodline. We talking about coming from the OG — from Top Dog Roman, Uso, Solo.”
But when asked why he seemed unsettled despite winning the match, Fatu admitted the situation caught him off guard and hinted that he wasn’t fully in the loop.
“Just like what I said at the press conference, I really can’t even speak on it. Cuz at the end of the day, okay, yeah, we could say this and that, but you know what? It ain’t no jealousy. It ain’t nothing else behind that.”
He mentioned that Cobb deserved the moment and that he had nothing but respect for the journey his longtime friend has taken.
“At the end of the day, he deserves to be in WWE. He deserves to be there, especially all the stuff that he’s been through.”
Still, Fatu didn’t shy away from pointing out how unstable things have felt lately within The Bloodline’s new era, especially with Solo Sikoa stepping into a leadership role.
“But man, at the end of the day, I really can’t call it. Solo’s in and out. I’m in and out.”
In the end, Fatu made it clear that communication and alignment are what’s missing—at least for now.
“Man, we just all got to bounce back on the same page, man. That’s about it.”
This moment peeled back the curtain just enough to show that things aren’t as locked in as they appear. The Bloodline might be expanding, but the foundation seems shakier than ever.
