Izzi Dame is the new NXT Women’s North American Champion — and she wants fans to know it wasn’t luck; it was part of the plan.
After a chaotic scene at WWE NXT’s New Year’s Evil on January 6 — where Thea Hail was blindsided by Blake Monroe and later issued an open challenge — Dame stormed the ring, took advantage of the moment, and left with gold around her waist. Now, speaking on Busted Open After Dark, Dame broke her silence about the victory, her mindset, and her vision for the title.
“I had something to prove. So when I originally took Tatum Paxley’s head off and cost her the NXT Women's title, everyone was freaking out, like, ‘Well, that was stupid. Why wouldn’t you let Tatum win and then do it after and then go after the title?’”
According to Dame, none of this was impulsive. The ambush, the opportunistic challenge and the title win were all part of something bigger.
“I have a plan. I always have a plan. I’m always in control. I didn’t need that title. Let Jacy Jayne go have her fun. Who knows? Maybe I’ll be a double champ. It was all part of a greater plan. I had a plan from the beginning.”
As for her reaction to the win? She didn’t think anyone expected her to win the title and stated that she loves being hated, encouraging fans to give her more hate.
“I don’t think anyone expected me to win tonight. No one expected me to be the one to accept the open challenge. I love the hate. Please give me all the hate — all of it.”
With the title now in her hands, Dame made it clear she’s not just holding a belt — she wants to redefine its legacy.
“To be fair — I took advantage of the opportunity. It was there for the taking, and now it’s like, let’s have some fun. This title is fairly new, and Stephanie Vaquer vacated it. I feel like it’s been bouncing around since Kelani Jordan won it originally. It’s been going from person to person.”
And she’s ready to put a stop to that by becoming the first champion to have a long reign with the title.
“I feel like it’s time for someone to hold the reins. So that’s my goal — make this title have meaning, and make my name have meaning.”
Izzi Dame’s win may have shocked fans — and left Thea Hail crushed — but if you ask Dame, this was never about stealing a moment. It was about owning it.
Do you think Izzi Dame will bring stability to the NXT Women’s North American Championship? Or was this just another chaotic chapter? Let us know what you think!
