The May 27th edition of NXT saw Mike Santana make his debut as he duked it out with Tavion Heights in singles competition. Following his impressive debut, WWE’s internal reaction to his performance has been revealed.
According to a report from PWInsider, Mike Santana was praised by people within WWE and received “high marks” for his performances during his appearances this week on NXT television.
As seen during this week’s episode of NXT, Mike Santana made a solid in-ring debut against Tavion Heights, where he showed the NXT Universe what he was made of. He was also successful in his in-ring debut, making it even more impactful.
While speaking to Busted Open Radio after his debut, Santana talked about how WWE has accepted him for who he really is. He said he’s happy he didn’t have to pretend to be someone else to succeed in wrestling.
Santana noted that many wrestlers play a character, but he’s proud to be himself. He felt respected when he joined WWE because they supported his true identity and how he wanted to present himself and that meant a lot to him.
“A lot of people are playing a character. I’m myself, bro. I’m thankful. I’m thankful that I’ve been able to get this far in my career not having to conform to anything or anybody and being myself. I’m thankful for that. Not a lot of people get to say that. That’s why it’s very important to me. The fact that I went down to WWE and they were so respectful of my authenticity and they were very on board with everything and my presentation and what I was doing and how I was doing it says a lot. It meant a lot.”
Mike Santana is now set to challenge Trick Williams for the TNA World Championship at next week’s episode of NXT, so we will have to wait and see how Santana will fare against Williams as it’s clear he has a ton of momentum on his side now.
