Danhausen’s WWE run may be just getting started — and according to a new report, CM Punk had a lot to do with it.

Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Punk “spearheaded” the idea of bringing Danhausen into WWE. In other words, the move wasn’t random — Punk was reportedly a major voice behind getting the former AEW star signed.

The report also revealed that WWE was cautious about how they introduced Danhausen on Raw. Rather than putting him directly in front of a live crowd for a long segment, WWE chose to show him backstage during the March 2 episode. According to the report, that decision was intentional — the company wanted to avoid the risk of a negative crowd reaction while they test how the character lands with the audience.

That careful rollout came shortly after Danhausen’s surprise appearance at Elimination Chamber in Chicago, where he popped out of a mystery crate and instantly became one of the night’s most talked-about moments.

He then appeared backstage on Raw and placed what he called a “curse” on Dominik Mysterio during a segment involving The Judgment Day. Hours later, Mysterio lost the Intercontinental Championship to Penta — which of course led plenty of fans online to joke that Danhausen’s curse might actually be real.

With Punk pushing for the signing and WWE carefully managing the character’s direction, it looks like the company is taking a calculated approach with Danhausen from the very start. Now the question becomes whether WWE will have long-term plans for the very nice, very evil one.
