For years, Hulk Hogan claimed he missed out on a $450 million empire because he didn’t answer the phone fast enough. But now, it looks like that legendary grill story may be cooked.
Back in 2014, Hogan told Dan Le Batard on Highly Questionable that he had the chance to endorse the now-iconic George Foreman Grill, but missed a crucial phone call. According to Hogan, his agent gave the option to him and Foreman, but since Hogan didn’t answer in time, the grill went to Big George—and the rest is greasy history.
“George Foreman and I had the same agent… My agent called me, ‘Hogan, I got two things, a grill and a blender. Two choices for you and George,’” Hogan claimed. “When I called him back, my agent says, ‘I called you first and I figured you would take the grill, but you weren’t home so I called George and he took the grill.’”
Hogan ended up endorsing the Hulk Hogan Thunder Mixer instead. His take on that deal? Brutal. “It spins three times, farts, and cuts off,” he joked.
But hold up—Pablo Torre did some digging on Pablo Torre Finds Out, and according to the actual family of the grill’s inventor Michael Boehm, Hogan’s version of events doesn’t check out at all.
“George Foreman was the only celebrity our dad approached about endorsing the grill,” Boehm’s family said in a statement. “We don’t know who started the story about Hulk Hogan being approached but it isn’t accurate.”
Hogan had claimed that his and Foreman’s agent, Sam, made the call. But Sam has since passed away. Their shared lawyer, Henry Holmes, also poured cold water on the tale, saying, “The Hulk Hogan story is not my recollection. In fact, it was two other celebrities sharing representation that their agent was asking about.”
Those other celebs? Reportedly Pamela Anderson and Chuck Norris—not Hogan.
So after all these years, it looks like Hulk Hogan wasn’t grilled over a missed opportunity… because the opportunity may have never existed.
