Hulk Hogan has worked with the best of the best the world of professional wrestling has to offer and that obviously includes Brock Lesnar. That being said, the Hulkster has now revealed the nickname he had for the Beast Incarnate.
While speaking to Alfred Konuwa, Hulk Hogan talked about what it was like wrestling Brock Lesnar when he first came to WWE. Hogan said he was one of the first people to face Lesnar, and it wasn’t easy at all. They wrestled about 10 to 12 times.
Hogan remembered a match at Madison Square Garden where the only way he could get Lesnar to go a little easier on him was by calling him “Broccoli” instead of Brock. He told Lesnar that if he kept being so rough, he’d end up wrestling alone.
“I remember when Brock Lesnar first came to the WWE. I got him first, and it was no picnic, believe me. I wrestled him probably 10 or 12 times. I remember being in Madison Square Garden—the only way I could get him to lighten up on me at all was by saying, ‘Okay, Broccoli.’ I’d call him Broccoli instead of Brock Lesnar. I said, ‘If you keep doing this crap, you’re going to end up in here by yourself.’
After a while, Lesnar started to ease up and go along with how things were done in wrestling. Hogan said he saw Lesnar grow into someone who could not only wrestle like a beast, taking people down fast and controlling them, but also entertain the fans with a big personality. The WWE Hall of Famer said Lesnar became a good worker, but at the beginning, Lesnar was like a train that just ran people over.
“Eventually, I got him to just go with the flow, which is what we did back then. But I saw his personality develop. I saw him go from just shooting in like a monster, grabbing a single leg, taking a guy down, riding him like a government mule, to becoming this crazy, over-the-top entertaining character.
He turned into what we call in the wrestling business a good worker—someone you can wrestle every night without worrying they’ll break your neck or cripple you. But when I first got him, he was not like that. He was like a freight train running over you.”
That’s not all as Hulk Hogan recently claimed that he faced off against Brock Lesnar after Lesnar left the UFC and came back to WWE, despite the fact that never happened since Lesnar actually feuded with John Cena first. Regardless, Hogan’s bizarre nickname for Lesnar will always be something fans will find amusing and that’s never changing.
