John Cena’s heel turn at WWE Elimination Chamber sent shockwaves through the wrestling world, and now Hulk Hogan is weighing in.
After two decades as WWE’s ultimate good guy, Cena turned on Cody Rhodes and aligned himself with The Rock, a move that instantly drew comparisons to Hogan’s infamous 1996 betrayal when he joined the nWo. In a new interview with Justin Barrasso of Undisputed, Hogan didn’t hold back his praise for the move.
“It’s one of the best heel turns I’ve seen in a long, long time,” said Hogan. “All the major players were involved. I can’t say enough about The Rock, too–he was incredible. They did it right, I’ll tell you that.”
With speculation running wild about how long Cena will embrace the dark side, Hogan believes this could lead to something truly unforgettable at WrestleMania 41.
“It’s going to work as long as John wants to stay plugged in. I don’t know his schedule or how many days he’ll work, but he definitely has everyone’s attention. Plus, The Rock is involved, too. This could heat up more than anyone is expecting. It could be so hot that it’s crazy, which will lead to a WrestleMania match you’ll never forget.”
There’s an added layer of history here, too. Cena’s shocking moment happened in the same building where Hogan and The Rock went to war at WrestleMania X-8 over two decades ago. Now, history is repeating itself in a way no one saw coming.
