WWE has undergone quite a lot of changes over the past couple of years, especially when it comes to creative freedom in storylines and overall directions for talent. In fact, a WWE star has now revealed the creative control that talent have over their storylines.

While speaking on the Speakeezy podcast, Michin was asked about the creative control WWE Superstars have over their storylines. She explained that talent can pitch as many ideas as they want, but only a few actually get approved. The final decision depends on whether creative and higher-ups like the idea.

Michin added that if 50 pitches are made, only two would be used. She noted that top stars like Randy Orton or The Rock have a higher chance of getting their ideas approved, while others have to keep trying and hoping something sticks. Despite having the ability to pitch storylines, there is no guarantee they will be used.

“We obviously have the freedom and ability to pitch ideas, so we can send as many as we want. It just depends on what actually sticks. If creative likes it, if the higher-ups like it, then yeah, we’ll do it.

But most of the time, for every—I’d say—50 pitches, you probably get two approved. It also depends on who you are. I’m not top talent; I’m not on the level of Randy Orton or The Rock or anything like that. So, anything they pitch will most likely get approved, whereas someone like me just has to keep tossing ideas and hoping one sticks. So yeah, we can pitch whatever we want, but we’ll see if they actually go for it.”

We will have to wait and see whether WWE will eventually decide to give lower or mid-card talent more creative freedom in order to express themselves and have more involvement in their storylines, as fans feel they do deserve more freedom in the end.
