Jinder Mahal just spilled some behind-the-scenes secrets about working with John Cena, and let’s just say Big Match John doesn’t always follow the rules—even Vince McMahon’s rules.

Speaking with MuscleMan Malcolm, Mahal reflected on his matches with Cena and revealed that the 16-time world champion prefers to call it in the ring instead of mapping things out beforehand. But the real shocker? Cena straight-up ignored a well-known Vince McMahon directive.

“I’ve always heard from producers, ‘Never do a test of strength.’ Vince hates it. He thinks it’s stupid. So I’m in the match, and Cena calls test of strength. Usually, you just kick the guy in the gut or whatever, but he doesn’t call anything. We just go into it. He goes all the way down and then comes up. And then I think he finally said, ‘Kick me.’”

For those keeping score, test-of-strength spots have been pretty much nonexistent in WWE for years unless it’s a monster clash like Bobby Lashley vs. Braun Strowman. Yet, Cena threw it in without hesitation.

So, did Vince McMahon rip into them after the match? Nope. “When we came back, obviously, no one said anything. We got the thumbs-up from Vince.”

Mahal also made sure to give Cena his flowers, saying it was an honor to wrestle him, especially since Cena’s retirement tour is in full swing.
