Hornswoggle just shared one of the most brutally awkward—and hilarious—stories from his time in WWE, involving none other than Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

During a new interview with Chris Van Vliet, the former WWE Superstar opened up about the time The Rock completely failed to recognize him backstage and mistook him for a Make-A-Wish kid.

The moment happened the night The Rock returned to WWE to announce he would be hosting WrestleMania 27. Hornswoggle, real name Dylan Postl, had just worked the show and was backstage in a suit with his gear when he decided to approach The Rock and thank him for coming back.

“I see my buddy Dwayne come back through—like, here we go. Bang. Hey man, thank you so much for coming back. Thanks for what you’re going to do for WrestleMania and what you’re going to do for the company, and just glad to have you back. Good to meet you. My name’s Dylan.”

Instead of acknowledging a fellow WWE performer, The Rock patted him on the shoulder and offered what sounded like a message to a charity guest.

“He extends his arm out, goes, ‘Did you have a good time tonight, buddy?’ Taps me on the shoulder, leaves… and I go, ‘Oh no. Oh no, he doesn’t realize I work here.’”

Things got even worse when Hornswoggle turned to Kofi Kingston for support—only for Kofi to immediately spread the story backstage.

“I told Kofi thinking he would have my back and support me. He supported me by texting 97 people immediately.”

Within seconds, Hornswoggle’s phone was blowing up with messages teasing him about The Rock’s mistake. The moment became such a topic backstage that even Big Show confronted The Rock the following week.

“Big Show called him out the next week about this… and Rock goes, ‘Yeah, I did. I don’t watch the show.’”

Eventually, Hornswoggle addressed it with The Rock directly, and The Rock admitted he genuinely had no idea who he was at the time. Now, years later, Hornswoggle sees the humor in it—especially since Dwayne Johnson is now technically his boss.

“Now he’s my boss. Rock, I accept your apology.”

Hornswoggle, who currently has a Nostalgia deal with WWE under the TKO Group umbrella, took the entire story in stride, showing the same self-deprecating humor that made him a fan favorite during his run in WWE.
