You never know what is really happening in the minds of some pro wrestlers, until they tell you. Although they may put up a great front, there could be personal demons and afflictions that they must deal with. Although Harley Cameron may seem perfect to some AEW fans, she’s not without her issues.
Harley Cameron has been rising quickly through the world of professional wrestling, as her comedy act found a real audience with fans. Sadly, even with her early high-profile matches, she admits to moments of self-doubt.
During a recent episode of Marking Out, she spoke candidly about how fast her career has moved and how it sometimes makes her question whether she truly earned her success.
“And it’s the thing—it’s hard because there are definitely times where I think, ‘Oh, do I deserve this?’ And other people have been grinding way longer than I have.”
“But when you’re given an opportunity and it’s your dream, what are you going to do? Are you going to turn it down? You don’t go, ‘No, no, no, they’ve been waiting longer than I have,’ right? But you also can’t go, ‘No, thank you. I really would like to get more reps under my belt.’”
“My attitude’s always been: if you’re thrown in the deep end, just do your absolute best. Be prepared… or drown. And luckily, I haven’t drowned yet.”
Imposter syndrome is a feeling where a person doubts their abilities and fears being exposed as a fraud, even when there is clear evidence of their accomplishments. It can affect people in any profession, especially when their rise feels quicker than expected. For Harley Cameron, this mental battle showed up as her wrestling career began taking off after only a handful of matches.
Harley Cameron’s second-ever match was on AEW Dark against Willow Nightingale. By her 64th match, she was standing across the ring from Mercedes Moné. Although Harley’s road in pro wrestling hasn’t been necessarily conventional, she has certainly made an impression on many occasions, and she’s also put in the work to get there.
