After ending the career of one of WWE’s most iconic figures, Gunther isn’t just bragging — he’s owning the moment and everything that comes with it.
During his TMZ Inside the Ring interview, the Intercontinental Champion-turned-legend killer was asked whether the WWE Universe will remember John Cena’s farewell, or the fact that Gunther made him tap out in the most shocking moment of the year. Gunther didn’t flinch.
“Both maybe. But for me it’s definitely going to be — that’s going to be something I can brag about for the rest of my career. That’s for certain.”
But with bragging rights comes pressure. Gunther knows that this victory isn’t just a win — it’s a legacy-altering moment. That’s why comparisons to Brock Lesnar ending The Undertaker’s streak at WrestleMania are starting to follow him. And Gunther isn’t running from that either.
“Yeah, I think maybe you can make it, because I think back — back then it was a similar situation. It was a real outrage about it.”
“And it was the right thing back then because Brock is — yeah, he’s still in the company. And he was the mountain to climb for 10 years now or however long ago that was.”
Now that the smoke has cleared, Gunther admits the real challenge is just beginning.
“It is a similar situation that also comes with a bit of pressure. Because at the end of the day, what I achieved that night is a gift. And now it’s on me to protect that gift… and keep it up. That’s the challenge for me now. Judge me after how I do that.”
Gunther just made WWE history. But instead of basking in the moment, he’s already planning how to back it up — because now the spotlight isn’t just on what he did to John Cena… it’s on what he does next.
