GUNTHER is getting brutally honest ahead of his massive match with John Cena this Saturday, December 13, at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington, D.C.—and he’s taking a direct shot at another wrestling legend he already put down.
Speaking with New York Post Sports, GUNTHER talked about his win over Goldberg at the July 12, 2025 edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event in Atlanta—a match that retired the WWE Hall of Famer for good. But when asked to compare that match to the one coming up with Cena, the Ring General made it very clear that Cena is the better wrestler.
“I’m expecting a little bit more out of [Saturday] because, yeah, John is such a way more skilled wrestler than Goldberg was,” GUNTHER said.
He explained that while he was pleased with the outcome of the Goldberg match, the two legends aren’t exactly equal inside the ropes.
“Goldberg was very limited in what he could do, so they were very different scenarios, I think.”
Looking ahead, GUNTHER didn’t shy away from embracing the “career killer” moniker—while also leaving the door open for more retirements in the future.
“I think we’re in a very special time right now in WWE where we have a lot of those legends still around — still active, still healthy, still competing in the ring. So yeah, I wouldn’t rule it out that this scenario could repeat itself.”
GUNTHER vs. John Cena is already a high-stakes, generational match—and now it comes with added heat, as the Ring General essentially labeled Cena the superior legend. With one icon already in his rearview mirror, GUNTHER’s ready to make John Cena his next historic victim.
