WWE Superstars are celebrities in their own right, but there are often times when they also get starstruck seeing celebrities from other fields. However, GUNTHER has made it clear he doesn’t belong in that category.
While speaking on the Six Feet Under podcast, The Undertaker asked GUNTHER if he ever gets excited to meet celebrities now that he’s famous, or if he ever wants to take a picture with someone big when they visit the arena.
GUNTHER said he doesn’t really feel that way. He’s never been the type to get starstruck or go out of his way to meet famous people. While he respects some of them and might think they’re cool or has something to learn from them, he doesn’t feel the need to talk to them just because they’re well-known.
The Ring General explained that when a celebrity is backstage and someone asks him to go say hello, he usually tells them to ask someone else. He’s fine having a quick chat if it’s for the company but if it’s a personal thing, he’d rather let someone who would actually enjoy it take that moment.
“No, not really. I never had that. Yeah, I could never, I could never really… I don’t know, follow that. I wasn’t… Obviously there are people you look up to and be like, ‘They’re cool, maybe I can learn something.’
But also, like, I’m usually that kind of guy—when I don’t know, somebody’s backstage, like somebody famous is a visitor and stuff—and they look for people like, ‘Hey, can you meet him?’
I’m like, ‘Please ask somebody else.’ I can do it for the company, like have a little chit-chat and blah blah blah, of course. But if it’s personal to me, it’s like… maybe take somebody that would enjoy it.”
This comes after the likes of Jelly Roll have already become a major part of WWE programming, but it’s clear the Ring General really couldn’t care less about celebrities like others do. In the end, the mat is the only thing that matters to GUNTHER and fans wouldn’t have it any other way.
