The July 12 edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event saw GUNTHER defeat Goldberg and retire the WWE Hall of Famer for good. Following the conclusion of the show, GUNTHER bragged about retiring Goldberg.

While speaking during the Saturday Night’s Main Event Recap show, GUNTHER said Goldberg isn’t even close to being a Mount Rushmore name in wrestling. He admitted that using the knee brace against Goldberg gave him a lot of satisfaction, saying he basically has a degree in twisting the knife once the wound is open.

GUNTHER talked about how even as a kid he watched legends and knew he’d surpass them. Now he’s proven himself right by retiring Goldberg. GUNTHER pointed out that he kicked out of the Jackhammer and then choked Goldberg out in the middle of the ring. The Ring General bragged that he gave Goldberg the honor of being retired by one of the greatest ever.

“The thing about Goldberg in general is, he’s not a Mount Rushmore wrestler of this business or anything. Yes, using that knee brace was bringing me great joy, I like that. You know how they say, putting the thing in the wound, I have a degree in that.

Even back then as a kid I watched legends and knew I’d be better. I proved myself right, I’m sitting here, I just retired Goldberg. Kicked out of the Jackhammer, I choked him out in the middle of the ring. I gave him the honor of being retired by one of the greatest to ever do this.”

Goldberg truly gave it his all in order to win the match as he even hit a brutal spear and Jackhammer on GUNTHER but simply failed to capitalize on the situation as GUNTHER ultimately choked him out with a rear naked choke.

GUNTHER now stands even taller in the pro wrestling business, having done what few ever could: retire a Hall of Famer on his own terms. With Goldberg out of the picture, we’ll have to wait and see what’s next for the Ring General.

Do you agree with GUNTHER’s harsh assessment of Goldberg’s legacy? Who do you want to see challenge GUNTHER next? Sound off in the comments.
