Jey Uso will challenge GUNTHER for the WWE World Heavyweight Title at WrestleMania 41 but many fans have felt their program didn’t get proper booking until the very end. In fact, even GUNTHER has now admitted his feud with Uso didn’t go exactly as he envisioned.
While speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, GUNTHER talked about the lead-up to his WrestleMania match with Jey Uso, explaining that while he’s satisfied overall, it hasn’t been easy. With a build that stretched over 10 weeks, keeping the storyline fresh and exciting was a challenge, especially with everything else happening in WWE.
“I am happy, but it was a challenge because it was a 10-week build. To really find something that excites you for 10 weeks is hard, especially with all the other stuff going on. But I think we managed it very well. The last two weeks, I think we got it en route where it’s supposed to be.”
The Ring General admitted that not everything went the way he personally would have wanted. In wrestling, ideas often change and even if he believed another direction might have worked better, he understands the need to adapt.
“It’s always a little bit like, what I think would be the best idea, that doesn’t always happen. That’s the nature of how the business works, and then you’ve got to be mature enough to realize that we do stuff every week and there’s always a better idea for something.”
GUNTHER emphasized that it’s not just about his own preferences, but about doing what’s best for the show as a whole. Despite the hurdles, he feels the story came together well, especially in the final weeks, and believes the stage is now set heading into WrestleMania.
“At the end of the day, it’s not about my personal taste or what I would like—it’s about what’s best for the product at that point, overall. In that regard, I think we managed it very well, and going into Mania, I think we set the tone very well.”
Even though the build-up to WrestleMania 41 had its challenges, GUNTHER stayed focused and handled everything with professionalism. He kept his feud with Jey Uso moving forward, always thinking about what’s best for the overall show. Now that the story has found its rhythm, fans are excited to see how it all plays out on the biggest stage of the year.
