Goldberg has confirmed he plans to have his retirement match before the end of 2025, but his status for Backlash this Saturday remains uncertain.

During a recent Q&A session, WrestleVotes addressed whether the WWE Hall of Famer would appear at Backlash to continue his storyline with GUNTHER, which started at Bad Blood.

“I haven’t heard anything. He started the whole thing at Bad Blood with GUNTHER. They haven’t done anything since. McAfee’s got the football background, Goldberg’s got the football background. The Saudi Arabia pay-per-view is coming up. So, if they want Goldberg and GUNTHER to take place in this Saudi Arabia PLE that happens in June, you might as well start it here in May. But again, I haven’t heard if he’ll be there on Saturday for Backlash and he’s not expected to be there.”

The confrontation between Goldberg and GUNTHER at Bad Blood created speculation about a possible match, but no follow-up has occurred since then. With the Saudi Arabia PLE in June as a potential location for the showdown, but as of now, Goldberg is not expected to appear at Backlash on May 10th.

Goldberg also recently confirmed that he is training for his retirement match, stating, “I do not know who, when or where I’m wrestling,” but made it clear the match will definitely happen before the end of 2025.

Goldberg’s last WWE match took place at Crown Jewel 2022 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he lost to Bobby Lashley in a No Holds Barred match. Despite the defeat, the former WWE Champion is determined to close out his career on his own terms.

With the Saudi Arabia PLE set for June, WWE has the opportunity to set up a major clash for Goldberg’s potential retirement match.
