Mike Raybeck, known to wrestling fans as Maxx Justice and Mike Diamond, has passed away following a tragic bicycle accident in Hayward, California.
The former wrestler was struck by a vehicle while riding home from work near Chabot College. He was reportedly picking up medication at the time of the incident.
Raybeck’s passing was acknowledged during a Hayward City Council meeting on May 13th, where they held a moment of silence and lowered the flags in his memory. The city plans to plant a tree in his honor to commemorate his years of service as a utilities maintenance mechanic in the public works department.
Raybeck’s wrestling career spanned eight years, with his last documented match taking place in 2002 for Pro Wrestling NOAH. He got his start in the business through All Pro Wrestling’s Boot Camp and went on to become a five-time APW Universal Champion. At 6’5” and over 250 pounds, Raybeck was a standout on the California indie scene, adopting the moniker “Maxx Justice.” He formed the original Border Patrol tag team alongside Michael Modest, another APW alumnus.
Raybeck also had stints in some of wrestling’s biggest promotions. In 1996, he wrestled three matches for WWF, including bouts against notable names like Justin Bradshaw and Savio Vega. Two years later, he competed in a dark match for WCW. Outside of the ring, Raybeck made a brief but memorable appearance in the wrestling documentary Beyond The Mat, further cementing his place in wrestling lore.
In a statement, All Pro Wrestling paid tribute to their former star, writing, “Our most sincere condolences go out to the family, friends and fans of Maxx Justice! Rest in Power, thank you for your contributions and for helping pave the way.”
Raybeck’s legacy will now live on in the form of a tree planted in his memory, a gesture that speaks to the impact he made both inside the wrestling ring and in the Hayward community.
