Just when it seemed like Elijah, formerly known as Elias in WWE, was on his way to AEW/ROH, a new twist has emerged—he might actually be heading to TNA Wrestling instead.
Despite appearing alongside The Righteous (Dutch & Vincent) at the ROH tapings on the Jericho Cruise, Dave Meltzer has now retracted his initial report, clarifying in the February 14 Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Elijah has not signed with AEW.
“While Elijah (Elias) appeared and did matches at the ROH tapings on the Jericho Cruise as part of The Righteous group with Dutch & Vincent, he hasn’t signed.”
Now, according to Sean Ross Sapp on the Fightful Select Q&A podcast, Elijah is currently being courted by TNA Wrestling.
“He and The Righteous shot an angle or a video where they sort of walked together and created a lot of talking points and stuff. It was great for buzz among those talent, but The Righteous are under AEW/ROH contract, and Elijah (Elias) is not. In fact, he is being courted by TNA as we speak.”
This update completely throws a wrench in the idea that Elijah was locked in with AEW. His cryptic debut video with The Righteous hinted at a full-blown transformation from his WWE persona, featuring eerie narration and closing with the question: “Who wants to run with The Righteous Ones?” While this led many to believe he was part of Tony Khan’s long-term plans, it now seems that his future could be elsewhere.
TNA Wrestling has been making aggressive moves to build its roster, bringing in big names and surprise debuts over the past year. If Elijah does end up signing with TNA, it could give him the creative freedom and fresh start that fans have been waiting to see since his WWE release.
