Hulk Hogan may have passed away in July, but the tributes to the wrestling icon continue across the world—and now Florida has taken it a step further. Governor Ron DeSantis has announced a lasting way to honor the Hulkster in his own backyard by naming a stretch of the Clearwater Trail after him.
Speaking with WESH 2 News, DeSantis explained how the state wanted to do something more than just a plaque or a street sign.
“We wanted to think about, okay, is there anything we can do that’s more lasting, especially in the Tampa Bay Area. So we wanted to see if there was something we could do that would be meaningful and be a fitting tribute to Hogan. Sometimes you can name a walkway or a street or something, and we thought about doing that, but we also said, you know what would be the most fitting with Hulk’s persona of training, saying your prayers, and eating your vitamins.”
As part of this initiative, a two-mile stretch of the Clearwater Trail—running between Oak Avenue and Coronado Drive—will now officially be called the Hulk Hogan Trail. The new trail will feature red and yellow signage in honor of Hogan’s colors, as well as fitness stations like pull-up bars to encourage fans to get active as they walk or run.
DeSantis said the project perfectly reflects Hogan’s influence and keeps his legacy alive in a way that embodies his trademark energy.
“So we thought about this Clearwater portion of the Clearwater Trail that we could dedicate in Hulk’s memory, and so I am proud to announce today that we are officially establishing the Hulk Hogan Trail on a 2-mile portion of the Clearwater Trail between Oak Avenue and Coronado Drive. So you’ll see those signs, but we’ll also have different types of… in the red and yellow colors, different types of exercise stations along the way. Since people walk and run and walk, but why not have a pull-up bar? Honestly, if you go on 2–3 mile walks and knock off 30 pull-ups, that’s gonna make a big difference.”
He added that the dedication will ensure the Hulkster’s spirit lives on far beyond the ring.
“So that will be done, we’ll take care of all that, and I think it’s exciting and it shows his memory is gonna live a long time. Hulkamania’s gonna live forever.”
Hulk Hogan’s impact stretched far beyond professional wrestling, inspiring millions with his larger-than-life personality, strength, and commitment to fitness. Now, with the Clearwater Trail named in his honor, fans can celebrate his legacy in a way that reflects what he stood for while also staying healthy themselves.
