Finn Bálor is heading into WWE Elimination Chamber 2026 with more than just championship gold on his mind—he’s fighting to redefine how his career is remembered.

Ahead of his World Heavyweight Championship match against CM Punk, Bálor spoke openly about feeling overlooked despite years of consistent performance at the highest level. He admitted that his reliability may have worked against him when it came to being viewed as a true top-tier star.

“I’ve proved myself time and time again in this business, but sometimes I get taken for granted. ‘Good old reliable Finn.’”

Bálor also acknowledged that his own mindset may have contributed to that perception, as he focused on doing his job without making waves.

“And I might be guilty – I was raised to show up, do your job, stay quiet, don’t ask any questions.”

However, he made it clear that his perspective has changed, and he now believes it’s time to demand more recognition and opportunity.

“The longer I’m around the more I realize the squeaky wheel gets the grease, and I think it’s time for Finn Balor to get some grease.”

The stakes are especially personal for Bálor given his complicated history with world championships. His Universal Championship win at SummerSlam 2016 was cut short due to injury, leaving many fans wondering what could have been.

Bálor addressed that lingering narrative directly, making it clear that tonight’s match represents a chance to change how his career is viewed.

“One match doesn’t define a legacy, a legacy is based over a career. My career has a stain on it. For 10 years people have been asking ‘what if?’”

Now, he sees Elimination Chamber as his opportunity to finally answer those questions. Bálor also drew a distinction between finishing his story and completely reshaping it.

“Well tonight, I answer those questions.”

“People talk about finishing their story, I don’t need to finish my story, I need to rewrite the entire narrative.”

With CM Punk standing across the ring and WrestleMania implications looming, Bálor has a chance to achieve something that has eluded him for nearly a decade—a sustained world championship run.

Do you think Finn Bálor will finally rewrite his legacy by defeating CM Punk, or will Punk continue his dominant reign into WrestleMania?
