Masayoshi Soken is no stranger to creating epic soundtracks, but his latest project has taken him into the world of professional wrestling. The Final Fantasy composer, who has also worked on sports games and Mario titles, crafted a brand-new entrance theme for Kenny Omega ahead of his return at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 19.
In a new interview with ESPN, Soken shared his admiration for the world of pro wrestling, explaining how deeply he dove into the industry to bring Omega’s vision to life. “There’s a story behind each wrestler, regardless of whether they win or lose, and there is a story before and after their matches,” he said. “In the ring, you see a magnificent battle, but in order for them to make it spectacular, they work incredibly hard behind the scenes, unseen by us.”
As a longtime wrestling fan, Soken made sure to capture the essence of a great theme song—something that fans can instantly connect with. “I’m sure any wrestling fan would understand, but it’s such an exciting experience to chant the wrestler’s name with their theme,” he explained. “As a wrestling fan, I wanted to incorporate that element somehow, and so I asked permission from Kenny to put that in.”
Omega’s new theme isn’t just another entrance track—it’s a piece of music crafted by someone who understands both the gaming and wrestling worlds. With Final Fantasy influences mixed into Omega’s iconic presence, Soken has created a song that fans will be chanting for a long time.
