Cody Rhodes’ controversial WWE Championship win already led to a ton of backlash online — and now a lot of people called him out after he bragged about main eventing his fourth WrestleMania in a row.

Rhodes took to Twitter on March 9, 2026 to react to the news that he’ll be main eventing WrestleMania for the fourth year in a row. The Undisputed WWE Champion seemed proud of the achievement and made sure to remind everyone he’s still QB1:“records can be broken (even your own) There’s nothing like Mania’❗️”

Rhodes’ tweet immediately caught attention— but instead of celebration, it triggered a lot of backlash from fans still upset about Rhodes defeating Drew McIntyre for the Undisputed WWE Championship on the March 6 episode of SmackDown. One fan mocked the situation by bringing up the massive dislike numbers tied to Rhodes’ recent title win: “Congrats you broke the dislike record.”

Another fan blamed WWE’s leadership for putting Rhodes in the limelight instead of McIntyre: “All because of Triple H, Drew deserves to be in main event.” Some fans argued that Rhodes effectively stole McIntyre’s WrestleMania moment by taking the championship right before the event: “Pass the ball dawg how can you rob Drew of fulfilling his dreams and walking into WM as champ… 🤦‍♂️”

Others went even further, comparing Rhodes to some of WWE’s most dominant — and controversial — booking eras, especially prime Hulk Hogan: “Moving like prime Hogan and Super Cena wrapped in.”

The backlash comes just days after the March 6 episode of SmackDown received a 1.91/10 rating on Cagematch, the lowest score for any WWE show in 2026 so far, largely due to fan frustration over Rhodes winning the Undisputed WWE Championship again.

Even with the criticism continuing to grow, Rhodes vs. Randy Orton is still the direction for WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas. Now the question is whether fan sentiment will cool down before the biggest show of the year — or if the backlash will keep growing as the event approaches.

What do you think about the fan backlash toward Cody Rhodes — are the reactions justified or are fans being too harsh? Let us know your thoughts.
