It’s been seven years since Konnor and Viktor of The Ascension were released by WWE, but the door might not be closed just yet.
Speaking with Rewind Recap Relive, Konnor opened up about possibly returning to WWE, and this time, he made it crystal clear: it has to be their way.
“The Ascension thing — I would always be open to it,” Konnor said. “As long as me and Vic have creative control and we can do what the hell we want to do… with the right people — and I could be wrong — but I think Vic and I would come back, if the money is good. More importantly.”
Konnor didn’t just hype the possibility — he put over his longtime partner Viktor as one of the most underrated in-ring minds to ever lace up boots.
“Vic was a technician, bottom line. He is a master. I told them earlier today — this guy was the last from the Dungeon and he was superb at what he did.”
Viktor added that their WWE run felt “cursed” in many ways, with backstage politics and missed opportunities derailing what could have been a dominant tag team legacy.
“It’s one of those things I’ve just never figured out. I don’t know — it seemed like we were always cursed. Right afterwards, nothing would ever come to fruition that we had going, even when it would have been something cool. You know what I mean? We were the guys who had all these opportunities that got messed up for reasons beyond our control a lot of the time. And it’s like, what the hell?”
This comes after past comments from Viktor where he recalled WWE’s failed attempt to “get heat” on them early in their main roster debut, despite the crowd at Madison Square Garden giving them a massive pop.
“When she [Vickie Guerrero] introduces us and our music hits, that place popped. Like, it wasn’t like boo—it was like an awesome pop… we didn’t know how far NXT had kind of reached within the WWE Universe.”
Viktor pointed out what he saw as a disconnect between NXT and the main roster—mainly because Vince McMahon didn’t care about the black-and-gold brand.
“Vince wasn’t really into the NXT product. So he didn’t have anything invested in it.”
Now, years later, The Ascension say they’re willing to return — but only if the terms are right. That means control, the right people, and the right paycheck. Otherwise, they’re staying far away from the politics that derailed them the first time.
Would you want to see Konnor and Viktor back in WWE—with full creative control this time? Or is the system too set in its ways to let a team like The Ascension soar again? Let us know in the comments.
