Former WWE talent Von Wagner, now competing under his real name Cal Bloom, appeared on the March 26 edition of AEW Dynamite as part of the security team during a brawl between Mark Davis and Powerhouse Hobbs. This left fans curious about his status with the company, but now the reason behind his appearance has been revealed.
While speaking on the post-AEW Dynamite show, Sean Ross Sapp talked about Von Wagner’s appearance on AEW Dynamite as part of security. Sapp explained that the former WWE Superstar’s appearance was not a sign of him joining the company.
Sapp stated that some fans speculated about Wagner’s status, but added that the show took place in Minnesota, where Wagner lives, and that’s why the former WWE Superstar was brought in.
“Von Wagner was on the show—he wrestled his first match in a year last week. He appeared as security, and people were wondering, ‘Oh, is he coming in?’ But they were in Minnesota, which is where he lives, so that’s why they did that.”
Cal Bloom was released from WWE on April 22, 2024, after five years with the company. His departure came less than a month after losing to Lexis King on NXT TV, ending his time as Von Wagner.
Cal Bloom made his in-ring return on March 15, 2025, at Midwest All-Star Wrestling’s “Mayhem at the Mall” event in Maplewood, Minnesota, where he faced Shay Diesel. This was his first match since leaving WWE. Bloom’s appearance in AEW was a one-time deal, leaving his next move uncertain. Fans will have to wait and see if he eventually joins AEW as a full-time star in the future.
