Matt Riddle is doing things his own way after leaving WWE—and now he’s got the welts to prove it.
At a recent appearance during River City Con, the former WWE Superstar turned indie attraction went full throttle during a fan interaction that left the crowd—and the fan—stunned. Riddle posted a video to his Instagram showing the exact moment he smashed a fan across the back with a kendo stick, and let’s just say it wasn’t a light tap.
In the video, Riddle winds up and delivers a vicious kendo stick shot to the fan’s back. The crowd watched as the fan stumbled forward in pain, while Riddle—grinning ear to ear—watched the aftermath proudly.
The fan then pulled up his shirt and revealed the damage: deep, raw welts left from the shot. Riddle, completely unfazed, smiled at the camera and seemed pretty pleased with the chaos. “River City Con wrestling Convention, great success 🤙🏻” Riddle captioned the video.
This all comes after Riddle made some bold claims about his success since leaving WWE in 2023. He recently stated that he’s been drawing crowds consistently on the independent scene. “I’ve sold out every single indie show I’ve been a part of,” Riddle previously claimed.
Whether that’s fact or flair, there’s no denying he’s keeping himself in the spotlight—especially with wild meet-and-greet moments like this. While the fan appeared to volunteer for the hit, the video has raised eyebrows online about how far these experiences should go.
