Gable Steveson just made it crystal clear—he’s firmly on the UFC’s radar, but nothing’s official yet.
Fresh off his lightning-fast 15-second KO victory at DBX, Steveson confirmed that UFC matchmaker Mick Maynard was in attendance and that they spoke right after the fight. While fans are ready to see the Olympic gold medalist in the Octagon ASAP, Steveson says he’s staying patient. He broke it down during an interview with Ariel Helwani, explaining the moment UFC interest became very real.
“I did talk to Mick. Um, you know, it’s cool to go out there… I have one fight, you know, to go out there and have a guy so high up in the UFC come and watch me, you know, it’s a blessing. But you want to go out there, and I’m focused before and I’m focused on the interviews after. I’m focused on meeting people, I’m taking pictures with the kids and kind of showing them that, hey, I’m not a bigger-than-life person. You know, I’m a guy that you can have an interaction with. And so I talked to Mick. Great convo, healthy. And we’ll see where it goes from there.”
Steveson didn’t play coy when asked if a contract offer was on the table—but he stopped short of confirming anything concrete.
“Not that I know of. You know, there might be one that someone’s getting ready to call me about right after this interview. So, I’ll be waiting to pick up the phone.”
He’s not denying the UFC could be calling soon—but for now, he’s not rushing into anything. Steveson emphasized that he’s still building his foundation and wants to make sure the timing is right.
“I feel like I’m still taking my time. I feel like there’s still a lot of things for me to gain being in a lot of more fights.”
So where do things stand? Talks have started. The UFC is clearly interested. But Steveson’s keeping control of the narrative—and his next move.
Do you think Gable Steveson should sign with the UFC now, or wait until he’s had more fights under his belt? Sound off in the comments and let us know your take.
