Just when it looked like Elijah, formerly Elias in WWE, had officially joined AEW/ROH, it turns out that’s not the case.
Despite appearing alongside The Righteous on the Jericho Cruise and working matches with Dutch and Vincent, Dave Meltzer is now walking back his initial report, clarifying that Elijah hasn’t actually signed with AEW.
In the February 14 edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Meltzer corrected his previous statement, writing: “While Elijah (Elias) appeared and did matches at the ROH tapings on the Jericho Cruise as part of The Righteous group with Dutch & Vincent, he hasn’t signed.”
This update throws a wrench in the idea that Elijah is locked in with AEW, leaving his future in the company completely up in the air. His cryptic debut video with The Righteous hinted at a full-blown transformation from his WWE persona, with eerie narration closing on the question: “Who wants to run with The Righteous Ones?” But now, it’s unclear whether that run will be anything more than a brief stint.
With Tony Khan still investing in ROH and looking for a media rights deal, the company has been making moves to expand its roster. Whether that includes Elijah in the long run remains to be seen, but for now, he’s officially a free agent.
Should AEW go all in on signing Elijah, or is he better off testing the waters elsewhere? Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comment section below.
