AEW has quite a few names that were once mainstays of WWE television and this includes even Tony Chimel, who was SmackDown’s announcer during the Ruthless Aggression era and into the early 2010s. Interestingly enough, it appears he has been pitched for an on-screen role in AEW as well.
In recent years, Chimel has been working behind the scenes in AEW. With his connection to Adam Copeland, some fans have wondered if he might return on-screen to introduce Copeland again. According to Fightful Select, a ‘couple of people’ in AEW have pitched this idea, but there’s no confirmation on whether it will actually happen.
Chimel became famous for the way he introduced Adam Copeland in WWE, often cracking his voice when saying “The Rated R Superstar.” Even after Copeland retired in 2011, Chimel was occasionally brought back for special appearances.
Last year, Tony Chimel also called out WWE for using his voice despite firing him in 2020. Nonetheless, AEW is always looking for ways to generate excitement and engage fans. Bringing in Tony Chimel for a special introduction of Adam Copeland could be a great way to add nostalgia and fan service. Whether AEW President Tony Khan will make it happen is still unknown, but there’s definitely interest from the fans.
