Eva Marie isn’t pretending the drama around her WWE run was fake — she’s saying it was exactly as intense as it looked, especially when she first walked into the locker room during the Total Divas era.
Speaking on Chris Van Vliet’s podcast, Eva shut down the idea that the tension was just reality TV storytelling. From her perspective, the reaction from other women in WWE was very real — and she gets why.
“Oh, that sht was real. That sht was real. I mean, we’re all good now, but that sht was like… wow.”*
She didn’t dance around the issue either. Eva admitted she walked into a situation where she immediately stood out — not in a good way — because she hadn’t put in the same time as others on the roster.
“You’re an outsider coming into our world — for sure. And I totally get it. It’s like, pay your dues. Who is this? She’s gonna come in here… we’ve been going hard for the last X amount of years.”
At the time, the women’s division wasn’t getting much room to breathe, which made everything even more competitive behind the scenes.
“You have to think too — not only were there two-minute matches, there’s one storyline for the girls. So it’s like a dog-eat-dog world. When you’re on TV, that’s how you get paid and how you get known.”
That’s where things really got tense. Eva and JoJo were stepping into that environment with little experience, while others had been grinding for years trying to break through. And from the locker room’s point of view, that didn’t exactly sit well.
“So now all of a sudden they have two new girls stepping into the locker room they know don’t know how to wrestle… they’ve been putting in their blood, sweat and tears for years to get up on the main roster.”
“Now they think they finally have their opportunity… and now you’ve got these two new girls that don’t even know how to do a back bump or run the ropes.”
Still, Eva made it clear she wasn’t about to apologize for taking the shot she was given — even if it meant walking into tension from day one.
“And you expect them to help us? And I’ll be damned if they think they’re gonna take my spotlight.”
At the end of it all, she summed up the situation in the simplest way possible — this is the wrestling business, and opportunities don’t wait.
“But at the same time, when opportunity knocks, you better be ready to f**ing take it — because nobody else is gonna do it.”*
Looking back, Eva Marie isn’t denying the heat — she’s owning it. And in her eyes, it came with the territory of jumping the line in a system where everyone else had been fighting for a shot.
