Eric Bischoff opened up during the 83 Weeks LIVE tribute episode about Vince McMahon’s rare public statement following the passing of Hulk Hogan—and why it hit him so hard.

The former WCW President reflected on the complicated but deep connection between Hogan and McMahon, a relationship marked by respect, intensity, and history. When co-host Conrad Thompson brought up McMahon’s message, Bischoff made it clear the tribute didn’t just speak volumes to fans—it meant something personal to him and would’ve meant the world to Hogan. McMahon’s statement, which was read during the broadcast, was simple but powerful:

“The world lost a treasure today. Hulk Hogan was the greatest WWE Superstar of all time. Someone who was loved and admired around the world. He was a trailblazer—the first performer who transitioned from being a wrestling star into a global phenomenon. His grit and unbridled thirst for success were unparalleled and made him the consummate performer. He gave everything he had to the audience whom he appreciated, respected, and loved. He leaves us with one of his favorite expressions: train, take your vitamins, and say your prayers. Today, we pray for him.”

Bischoff was deeply moved, and said it was exactly what Hogan deserved.

“I was grateful for it. I was happy to see it. Happy because Vince was such an important part of Hulk’s life. Talk about complicated—those two had a very complicated relationship. I’m not going to use the word ‘hate’ the way people throw around ‘love-hate relationship,’ but it was a love-stressful relationship at the very least. Both very aggressive, both had a vision, both driven in ways that few people I’ve ever met are.”

Even when Hogan jumped to WCW, Bischoff said the WWE legend never spoke poorly of Vince.

“He didn’t bury Vince to me. And that was rare. Most guys would come to WCW and immediately try to bury Vince or WWF. But Hulk never did that. He always kept it respectful.”

To Bischoff, that’s why McMahon’s tribute mattered so much.

“I knew they would remain friends no matter what. And I’m glad Vince came out and said that. I know it would have meant a lot to Hulk. It meant a lot to me, frankly, because that was great.”

As tributes continue to pour in, this one from Vince McMahon stands apart—not just for its sentiment, but for what it says about the enduring bond between two of wrestling’s most iconic figures.
