Brock Lesnar did whatever he wanted to do in WWE, and it appears that’s what happened at the 2020 Royal Rumble, as Elias claimed Lesnar went off script during the match.

While speaking on Inside the Ropes, Elias revealed that Brock Lesnar went completely off script during the 2020 Royal Rumble. While Brock spoke to everyone beforehand, once it was go-time, he did whatever he wanted.

Elias had a whole segment planned out. He had written a song called The Sacrificial Lamb, knowing he was basically just there to get thrown around by Brock. Still, he wanted to make the most of his moment. His plan was to come out, perform the song while mocking Paul Heyman and then get into the match with some quick offense before Brock took over.

Elias even talked to Lesnar ahead of time and planned the spots, suggesting he’d start with a knee and a few moves, then Brock could catch him and take control. Brock played along, asking him to repeat the plan but deep down, Elias knew Brock wasn’t going to follow it.

“Yeah, he talked to everybody. But when it’s time to go, he just does what he wants to do. I remember I had this whole song planned. I wrote a song called The Sacrificial Lamb because I knew that’s what I was—just the guy Brock was going to throw around.

But I was at least going to have my moment. I was going to come out, do my song, sing right to Paul Heyman, the bell rings—boom, it starts.

I remember talking to Brock and being like, ‘Dude, I’ll just get on you right away. I’ll hit you with a knee, then this and that, then you catch me and…’ you know, whatever. He’s like, ‘Yeah, yeah, cool. Run that by me again.’ All the while, I know he’s just going to do whatever he wants.”

When the moment came, Elias began singing his song in the ring. After taking a shot at Paul Heyman, the crowd reacted loudly. Suddenly, Brock stormed down the ramp. Elias was still strapped with his guitar and battery pack and saw Brock running at him full speed. In a panic, he dropped everything and legitimately ran, comparing it to being chased by a bear.

Elias slid into the ring just as the Beast Incarnate tackled him. Lesnar started throwing punches, slamming fists into Elias’s head. Elias somehow escaped briefly, only to be hit with a German suplex. Brock then picked up one of Elias’s guitars and smashed it over his back.

“So I had this idea in my head, and I think if you go back and watch, you can probably hear it. I’m singing the song, I hit a line that makes fun of Paul Heyman, the crowd goes, ‘Ooh,’ and suddenly Brock just runs down the ramp.

I’ve got my guitar strapped on, battery pack and all, and he’s charging at me full speed. I’m like, ‘Oh my…’ I probably said something I can’t repeat. I don’t know if the mic picked it up.

And by the grace of God, I ducked my head just as he swings, trying to take it off. I dump everything and just start running—like, legit sprinting away from Brock Lesnar. It’s like a bear chasing you.

I slide into the ring, and he tackles me. He’s pounding my head, just fists raining down. I think I roll out of it somehow. Then he German suplexes me, grabs one of my guitars, smashes it across my back.”

To top it off, Brock Lesnar lifted Elias and tossed him out of the ring but not before saying, “Thank you”. Elias was disappointed because that was supposed to be his big Royal Rumble moment, and Brock had completely taken over.

Despite the frustration, Elias admitted the moment became memorable in its own way. He remembered the adrenaline and the feeling of running for his life. Looking back, Elias said if he had the chance to do it all over again, he would’ve just hit Brock with the guitar.

“Then he picks me up, goes to throw me out of the ring, and says, ‘Thank you.’ Just tosses me out. I’m like, ‘Okay, I guess that just happened.’

I was really disappointed, honestly. That was supposed to be my Royal Rumble moment, and he just did his own thing. But at the same time, it turned into something memorable in its own way.

I remember the adrenaline rush—running for my life after he tried to take my head off. Looking back, if I could do it again, I would’ve just whacked him with the guitar, man.”

Elias didn’t get the planned Royal Rumble moment he was hoping for, but he ended up with something that was memorable. After all, having an unscripted moment like that with Brock Lesnar will be something fans will never forget and that’s what truly matters in the end.
