Elayna Black had to deal with a lot of things during her career in WWE but she has now revealed that she almost lost her life following an ectopic pregnancy a couple of years ago.
While speaking on the Ariel Helwani Show, Elayna Black revealed that in late January 2023, she was supposed to wrestle Lyra Valkyria on TV. But the night before, she had to go to emergency surgery because she was very sick. She had an ectopic pregnancy that burst, causing her to bleed inside. She was almost dying and needed surgery right away.
“I never talked about this because it’s a personal thing, but I feel like I wanna say it because if you only knew what I was going through, you’d realize you’re messed up for what you’re saying to me. So in January of 2023, like very late January, I was supposed to wrestle Lyra Valkyria on TV on a Tuesday. Long story short, I ended up in emergency surgery in the hospital the night before, literally almost dying and bleeding out. I had an ectopic pregnancy that had failed and it had exploded, causing internal bleeding.”
Elayna Black stated that she went to the hospital thinking she just had to get through the match. At first, they said she had to wait 11 hours, but she told them she couldn’t wait. They checked her and took her straight to surgery. She explained that she had an IUD birth control, which usually works 99% of the time.
But it can cause ectopic pregnancies where the baby grows outside the uterus in the Fallopian tube, which is very dangerous. She was scared of this happening and trusted her feelings when she knew something was wrong. During surgery, the doctors had to remove her left Fallopian tube.
“I was rushed into emergency surgery because I was this close to bleeding out. Thank God I went, because I was thinking, “I just have to get through the match.” I was bleeding, but I had to go to the hospital. When I got there, they told me I had an 11-hour wait, but I told them I couldn’t wait.
So they checked me and immediately rushed me into emergency surgery. What happened was I had an IUD birth control, which has a 99% success rate, but they warn you beforehand because it’s a five-year thing. They warn you about ectopic pregnancies beforehand. That’s when the egg implants outside the uterus, in the Fallopian tube, which causes the tube to explode.
Obviously, you bleed internally and it’s life-threatening both to the baby and to the woman. So I was always scared of that in general. My intuition told me I knew what was happening, and I had to go. They ended up having to remove my left Fallopian tube.”
Black added that she felt sad about missing Stand and Deliver that year. She didn’t know how much this would affect her. After she came back, she felt very depressed, more than ever before in her life. She called a WWE doctor and told them she needed help because she wasn’t okay.
Black later found out she had very bad postpartum depression. At 22 years old, it was a really hard and crazy time for her. She didn’t know how much it would affect her mind, and she knew she needed to take time off to get better.
“I was just bummed about missing Stand and Deliver, but I guess nothing like that had happened to me before, so I never realized the effects. After I came back, those few months were the most mentally depressed I had ever been in my life. I remember calling one of the WWE doctors and saying I needed to go somewhere because I was not okay. I learned later that the postpartum depression was so intense. I was like 22 years old, and it was insane. It was the craziest thing I ever experienced. I didn’t realize the toll it takes on you in person, but mentally, I needed to take my time off.”
Elayna Black revealing such a personal thing about her life just shows how open she is about what she went through and fans are just happy to see that she made a full recovery. After all, the pregnancy could have been fatal due to the internal bleeding but thankfully, she pulled through.
