Nixon Newell and Miranda Alize walking out of AEW Collision made them received a lot of backlash from fans as well as peers. That’s why it’s no surprise that even Dustin Rhodes has now thrown shade at them.
Dustin Rhodes took to Twitter and threw shade at Nixon Newell and Miranda Alize after they walked out of AEW Collision. He stated that when a wrestler is given a chance to perform on TV, they should accept it, do the job and keep a positive attitude. Otherwise, they shouldn’t be surprised if they’re let go, as he essentially confirmed Newell and Alize are done with AEW.
“When you get an opportunity to perform on television, you say yes! You do exactly what the company wants/WITH A GREAT ATTITUDE. Otherwise, good luck in ur future endeavors. #KeepSteppin #WorkEthic #Passion #Opportunity.”
This comes after Nixon Newell publicly denied being disrespectful. She explained that she and Miranda Alize made their decision after a calm discussion with AEW staff.
According to Newell, their match was changed from something meaningful to just three minutes, and they felt it wouldn’t allow anyone in the match to look good. Rather than argue or cause problems, they politely stepped aside and told AEW to give the spot to someone else.
“We decided as a couple, as wrestlers independently, that 3 minutes isn’t going to make anyone look good. As wrestlers, we want everyone to look good. We were polite, we were respectful… We said, ‘Hey, I don’t think 3 minutes is going to benefit us, not just us but everyone in the tag team.’”
We have also reported that AEW has no plans to bring back Nixon Newell and Miranda Alize moving forward, so Dustin Rhodes’ message was pretty much a confirmation.
This situation shows a common issue in wrestling about how matches are planned and how wrestlers and management work together. Newell and Alize believed stepping away was the best way to protect the quality of their work. However, AEW leadership and some wrestlers felt differently, making it clear that you should never refuse TV time when you’re given the chance. So in the end, they’ll never return to AEW and fans feel that’s for the best.
