Dustin Rhodes isn’t hiding from his past, and he made it clear just how dark things once got for him.
While speaking on The F Y’all Podcast with C.T. Fletcher, Rhodes opened up about the lowest point of his life, revealing that his battle with drugs and alcohol nearly destroyed him. The conversation turned serious as he reflected on the years when addiction took control and pushed him into a dangerous mental space.
Rhodes explained that his struggles didn’t just affect his career — they affected how he viewed life itself. He admitted that during that time, he lost hope and didn’t care about what happened to him.
“Just keep the pace. And you know, I had a rocky bottom and I fell into drugs and alcohol and, you know, wanted to kill myself a couple times. It’s just bad. I hated everything. Didn’t care about life. But now I’m 18 years clean and sober. So it’s a testament to my resilience and perseverance and got a second chance.”
He then explained how rehab became the turning point that saved his life. Rhodes said he realized he had reached the end of the road and needed to make a choice if he wanted to survive.
“God gave me a second chance to — all right, this is your one and only chance. You know, he said you’ve had enough. I’d had enough and went to rehab and hadn’t looked back, man.”
Rhodes has now stayed sober for nearly two decades, and his story shows just how close he came to losing everything before turning his life around. After years of fighting personal battles, he continues working in wrestling while staying committed to his recovery.
Hearing Dustin Rhodes speak this openly about addiction and suicidal thoughts adds a deeper layer to his story, especially for fans who have followed his long career inside the ring.
