Drew McIntyre finally reached the pinnacle of WWE by defeating Cody Rhodes in a brutal Three Stages of Hell Match to capture the Undisputed WWE Championship. The win on the January 9th episode of SmackDown was a massive moment in McIntyre’s career, but now attention has shifted to how long his reign might actually last.

According to Bodyslam.net, there’s growing speculation within WWE that McIntyre could hold onto the title all the way through WrestleMania. Internally, the expectation appears to be that he will remain champion heading into the company’s biggest show of the year—and if that’s the case, Cody Rhodes may once again be his opponent on the grand stage.

Rhodes has already declared himself for the Royal Rumble, looking to make history with a third consecutive Rumble win. However, because he’s already won two in a row, there’s talk that WWE could take a different creative route and have him earn a title opportunity through the Elimination Chamber instead. This would add a fresh twist to the ongoing storyline between Cody and Drew, which has already captivated fans over the last few months.

Before any of that can happen, McIntyre will face his first major test as champion. A Fatal 4-Way Match at Saturday Night’s Main Event will determine his next challenger, with Randy Orton, Sami Zayn, Damian Priest, and Trick Williams all vying for the opportunity.

As WWE’s road to WrestleMania picks up speed, all signs seem to point toward another chapter in the Cody Rhodes vs. Drew McIntyre saga—unless someone else steps up and changes the direction.
